Miss Jillian provides dancers at DDD the opportunity to experience the teaching side of dance as a class assistant. Dancers who have met the assisting requirements are invited to participate in this opportunity and work weekly with an assigned teacher. The assistants demonstrate technique and help students learn their recital choreography.
Miss Jillian says, “Training assistants is a great way for me to share my love of teaching and help develop the next generation of great teachers.”
Junior Lindsay Abell is in her 5th year as an assistant and likes to assist because she enjoys watching dancers grow throughout the year and reach their full potential. “My favorite genre to assist is tap because it is my favorite style of dance. I want to share my passion with the rest of the dancers!”
Freshman Gracie Allen is in her 4th year as an assistant and likes to assist because it gives her job experience and responsibility at a young age. Her favorite genre to assist is ballet because it allows her to review the basics while continuing her own advanced ballet training. Gracie’s most memorable moment in assisting occurred outside of the studio when one of her dancers saw her in a restaurant. “She came up to me with her mom because she wanted to say “Hi Miss Gracie” and it made me realize how much the younger dancers really look up to you as an assistant.”
Seventh grader Olivia Sineway is assisting for the first time this year! She is excited to assist in her favorite genre of jazz. “I was super excited when I found out I was going to assist this year. Now, I am excited about assisting and helping the little ones have lots of fun and share my love of dance with them.”
To all of the assistants, whether first year or fifth year, thank you for taking time this season to share your love of dance!
