DuHadway Dance Dimensions is welcoming back to the studio DDD alumni Rachel Pawson. Miss Rachel will begin teaching classes this fall. We are excited for her to share her knowledge gained from her many experiences.
A 2013 graduate of Alma High School and 2017 graduate of Oakland University, Miss Rachel pursued her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance. According to Miss Rachel, “Dancing at the collegiate level gave me a new outlook on dance and technique not only as a student of dance but as a teacher of dance.”
During her first semester at Oakland University, Miss Rachel was a member of the Oakland Dance Theatre. Due to her talent and dedication to dance, she was given the rare and prestigious opportunity to be part of the University’s Repertory Dance Company during her second semester, as this is reserved for upperclassmen only.
During her sophomore year, Miss Rachel became a substitute dancer for Eisenhower Dance Company. This experience gave her the opportunity to dance with professionals and immerse herself into the professional world, which led her to formally auditioning for the Eisenhower Dance Company. The summer after her sophomore year, Miss Rachel studied abroad in Berlin, Germany for three weeks dancing at a free lance school.
For her junior year, Miss Rachel was asked to become an apprentice with the company for the next season, which “was a dream come true!”. She toured all over the United States performing as a professional dancer, while receiving college credits towards her degree.
During her senior year, Miss Rachel continued dancing with the company and this summer (June and July 2017) she had the opportunity to tour overseas in Israel and Poland. Miss Rachel and the company performed at the Tel Aviv Opera House in Israel giving 5 performances in 7 days. While in Poland, they performed 3 evening outdoor performances.
As modest as Miss Rachel is, it must be known that in the Spring of 2017 she was recognized by Oakland University’s Department of Music, Theatre and Dance with the 2017 MaTilDa Award for Outstanding Dance Performance.
Miss Rachel says, “The experiences I have had at Oakland University and with Eisenhower Dance Company have forever changed my life. I am so grateful to be able to share my experiences and new outlook on being a professional dancer and choreographer with all of the dancers here at DDD!”
